Austin Studio Tour 2021: Diaspora

As defined by the overlords at google, "A diaspora is a scattered population whose origin lies in a separate geographic locale."

Is this a bit dramatic?  Certainly.

The past year has been turbulent and riddled with difficult situations.

I have witnessed and survived some things that have made me question the very nature of reality and what I am really doing, as a soul.

Constant "resistance" as defined by Steven Pressfield has fed a sense of urgency.  Having the "gumption" to create this art in spite of everything (as defined by Sedona's Gumptionfest) relied heavily on Pressfield's methods and practices.

Studying the lectures of Ram Dass has carried me through some dark times this year. I can not overstate the feeling of peace this being inspires in me. I am still struggling with.... everything.   But the struggle IS.

Other sources you may find scribbled notes about on drawings in this collection include The Bhagavad Gita, Dhammapada, and Kuan Yin- The Quatrains.

What does anything I just ranted about have to do with diaspora?

Facts persist... there is an ever broadening ring of artists and creators surrounding Austin, TX.  I am in this ring.   Living in the woods 40 miles out, I am part of the Austin diaspora.

Or was i referring to something else altogether?

I am not who I thought I was.  This realization keeps on coming, over and over... until eternity.

Anyway, these are my best drawings from this complicated and beautiful year.

Cheers.
